Note : In the year 1995, due to the heavy rainfall during census period, waterhole count was not reliable. For Tiger and Leopard, pug-mark census and for other species waterhole count methodology is used. The figures for Tiger and Leopard are based on waterhole count for the years 1996, 97 and 98.
Tourism
Proximity of the Pench Tiger Reserve to a metropolitan city like Nagpur has resulted in attracting the tourists to these aesthetically beautiful woods with ample wild animals and hilly, undulating terrain. However, activities like picnic, merrymaking etc. are not encouraged inside the Reserve.
Wildlife tourism here is always associated with season i.e. March to June, when visibility is more and there is a greater chance of viewing wild animals. Wildlife tourism is more evident in the East Pench range. A visitor centre is underway at Sillari on the boundary of Pench Tiger Reserve. This will have facilities for interpretation and accommodation of small groups in tent camps.
On an average, 100,000 tourists visit this Reserve every year.
Infrastructure and Facilities
Tourist movement is controlled by the staff available with the Reserve. No special staff, vehicles or experienced guides are available.
There are a few widely scattered and remotely situated rest houses, which are also used for accommodating the visitors. Of these, only Totladoh rest house is suitably located.
Highways
Core area of Pench Tiger Reserve is about 7 km. form National highway no. 7 i.e. Nagpur-Jabalpur road. A new road from Chargaon, Banera, Narhar to Ghatpendhari passes through the Reserve and could be a problem.
Diseases
Diseases among the wild animals are not noticed in the Reserve.
Encroachment
There is some encroachment in the Reserve by villagers of Fulzari and Ghatpendhri. The process of shifting the village "Fulzari" is in progress. The encroachments along the boundary of the Reserve have to be identified. There are illegal occupants in the temporary structures of Irrigation Department at Totladoh.
